2) I'd like to mention that the Chinese paddlefish is close to extinction. The American paddlefish was close to extinction in the 60's until artificial spawning became possible. It should work on the Chinese species as well. Here is a biologist, Steven Mims, who I met through email and he can spawn a single female by using irradiated sturgeon sperm. I hope to be able to help save these fish which get over 1000 pounds and produce valuable caviar. I don't happen to care about caviar, but this fish could eventually pay for itself if we give it the chance.

Catch and Release
When fly fishing with a friend, he urged me to keep one sea perch in 2005 for eating. I regret it and that was the only fish I killed intentionally when fly fishing in over a few hundred trips. It is better for the sport if people stop off at a fish and chip restaurant instead of depleting the fish population. Leave our children some fish to catch for Pete's sake. For those who fish for food, things may be different, but I'm in urban California and the only Whoppers I eat are at Burger King.
